How does Photovoltaic (PV) Work?

Photovoltaic panels are made up of PV cells that can be attached to a roof or walls.

Each cell is made from one or two layers of semiconducting material, usually silcon.  When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers. The stronger the sunshine, the more electricity is produced.

Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs) – what’s in it for you?

The Feed-in Tariff (FiTs) Scheme is to encourage early take up of PV solar technology.  Early adopters of the scheme will get higher feed-in-tariff rates than later up-takers.

For all units of electricity produced (private or business) regardless of whether it is used in the property or not – the tariffs will cover the initial cost and earn a return of around 8% per annum according to the government.

Find out how much you can earn by using our PV calculator and request a quote dependant on your requirements.

Learn about photovoltaic solar panels

There are many different ways that photovoltaic panels can be mounted onto a roof or the ground. Ideally the roof will be south facing.

The panels produce DC electricity so a small inverter will be fitted inside the house, to change the DC into AC.

A wall mounted display unit will allow you to check on performance and usage of your system.
